How to choose the best mattress

We don’t buy a mattress very often, therefore it is advisable to do through research before we buy one. With the huge amount of technical words used by mattress suppliers, it can be a really difficult task in narrowing down to just one. In our guides, we have highlighted the critical points which need to be kept into consideration. We hope our guides will help you find the perfect mattress suited to your sleeping needs.

Different Types of Materials

There are a number of different materials used for mattresses today. Each material has its own benefits and its comes down to your preferences and sleeping position when choosing a particular mattress type. We have highlighted some of the most common types of materials used for mattresses today.

Memory Foam

A memory foam mattress combines several layers of foam inside. These layers of foam mould to the shape of your body, thus providing even comfort and support throughout the body. Once you get out of bed the mattress will bend back to its original form and thus the word ‘memory’ as it remembers your body shape.

Memory foam are one of the popular types of mattresses today due to the great comfort they provide. However, one negative point of these mattresses are that they trap heat.

Innerspring

These types of mattresses use a system of springs coiled around to support the mattress. The springs provide support and comfort throughout the mattress.

Innerspring mattresses are a little dated however they are still popular in the market for their affordability.

What are your personal preferences?

The decision to choose a particular mattress depends on your preferences. This includes your sleeping position and the type of support you prefer that is whether you like to sleep on a firm mattress or do you prefer a soft mattress which hugs your body. Also if you are sleeping with a partner, you will need to consider their preference also. Most companies have a scale of 1-10 to rate how soft or firm their mattress is.

What is your budget?

Setting a budget for your mattress purchase will help you narrow down your options. There are a variety of options available in the market, from low-end budget mattresses to high end luxury mattresses.

The type of material can also effect the mattress prices. Soft mattresses that use latex are typically more expensive than normal foam mattresses.
